The Opportunity

Safety-Kleen Canada is looking for an Operating Engineer that holds a 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate This position will oversee the coordination of operational activities for safe and efficient operation of a steam plant at our Breslau Refinery. This position will hold some project manager responsibilities for small to large, technically complex projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Technical Standards and Safety Act, Operating Engineers Regulation and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Ensures compliance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000 Ontario regulation 219/01
  • Coordination of operational activities for safe and efficient operation of steam plant
  • Works with maintenance organization and prime contractors to support planning, scheduling and field execution of the maintenance activities to ensure reliable operation of steam plant
  • Provides input to turnaround and major equipment outage planning, scoping and support activities
  • Manages and oversees small to large, technically complex projects
  • Prepare proposals, including cost estimates and work scopes and schedules.
  • Provides technical support for proposal preparation, project cost estimates and subcontractor selection and procurement.

What does it take to work for Safety-Kleen?

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in Chemical Processing;
  • 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certification is mandatory,
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Capital project conception and implementation experience is considered an asset;
  • Plant experience in continuous manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • Promote teamwork and works well with others;
  • Ability to work on multiple projects successfully;
  • Good decision-making;
  • Ability to relate to technical as well as hourly personnel;
  • Project Management Professional designation considered an asset.
