Overview

Under the direction of the Vice President of Information Technology, the Director of IT Operations provides the vision, leadership, and team management for developing and implementing monitoring solutions and instrumentation across Clean Harbors infrastructure and application environments. The Technology Manager is responsible for planning and supervision of TI staff, budget preparation and management, evaluation, and recommendation of technical acquisitions; and the development of guidelines, standards and procedures centered around Infrastructure Operations.  The Director of IT Operations is responsible for:

  1. Leading the technical effort for the integration of best of breed monitoring solutions into a view for both support personnel and Senior Executives.
  2. Owning and managing the Infrastructure Change Management Process
  3. Owning and managing the Infrastructure Escalation and Communication Processes
  4. Develop a Global IT Operations Organization

As the Director of IT Operations, you will be responsible for working within the Management Information Systems (MIS) teams to assist in the provision of service availability, performance, vulnerability, escalation management, change management and compliance monitoring. You will also help to shape, optimize, and champion the MIS services, as well as operate, administer, and engineer monitoring solutions within a complex enterprise topology. You will work with numerous vendors, Windows, network, and monitoring tools to provide stakeholders the information necessary to ensure that the firm’s on-premises and cloud network, applications, and IT services are healthy and available, while ensuring the enterprise monitoring platform operates on a 24/7 basis.

Responsibilities

  • Integrating technologies such as, but not limited to, Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), LogicMonitor, SolarWinds, Nagios, Dynatrace, Foglight, VMWare vROps, Xmatters and Azure Monitors into the centralized monitoring platform
  • Developing solutions to provide monitoring for the firm’s critical applications and core infrastructure.  Ensures agreed upon Service Level Agreements are met with high customer satisfaction
  • Developing automation solutions for monitoring CMDB population activities for correlation of infrastructure, monitoring data, and unified alerting into ServiceNow
  • Creating real-time interactive dashboards to show the health of the firm’s critical infrastructure and business applications
  • Defining and maintaining a consistent Change Management Program including risk assessments across the infrastructure environments
  • Define and report on Service Level Agreements as required by the Clean Harbors business
  • Document standards and procedures, coordinating with global teams to ensure that the delivery of IT services is being done in a consistent manner
  • Participates in disaster recovery planning and incident response development and implementation
  • Manages, monitors, and continuously improves processes and procedures for IT service management, particularly for IT service transition, IT service operation and IT project management
  • Proactively identifying system issues and the appropriate technology resources to resolve problems and following defined escalation procedures, assisting in recommending solutions to the relevant support group when appropriate
  • Working with the Technology Department Management Team to identify key metrics and reporting requirements as they relate to technology performance and operation
  • Reviewing and recommending additional monitoring tools, processes, key metrics, or tactical initiatives as they relate to building a monitoring strategy and standards within Clean Harbors
  • Promoting effective work practices and working as a team member
  • Educating and training MIS Management and staff in basic monitoring capabilities, techniques, procedures, and processes
  • Performing other related projects and assignments as required

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in design, configuration, or management of monitoring tools such as Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM), System Center Orchestrator (SCO), SolarWinds NPM, VMWare vROps, Dynatyrace, AppDynamics, VMware VROPs, LogicMonitor, Foglight, and/or other tools
  • Experience in the foundations of ITIL Change Management Best Practices
  • Experience managing and Implementing an Enterprise Management Toolset is highly desirable
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Suite of Applications
  • Previous experience managing a team implementing monitoring solutions is highly desirable
  • Experience with backup systems and Disaster Recovery methods
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior staff members and set career paths
  • Possess knowledge of authoring monitoring rules, tuning, setting thresholds
  • Experience in implementing synthetic monitoring solutions
  • Possess the ability to rapidly assimilate product knowledge from a monitoring perspective
  • Have experience using either PowerShell, KQL, or SQL Language
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of one of the following: ITIL, Azure fundamentals, AWS, Microsoft qualifications, or other Enterprise Monitoring tool qualifications
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant enterprise monitoring experience as an engineer at a global organization
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience working with: Microsoft technology components used to deliver software solutions and services, scripting tools and languages such as SQL, PowerShell, and Python, and API data extraction
  • Write clear and concise Standard Operating Procedures and processes for functional areas within IT
  • Systematic approach to solving problems, coupled with a strong attention to detail and effective communication skills
  • ITIL Change Management experience
  • Strong communications and relationship skills
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment collaborating with a dynamic team
  • Willing to support areas of responsibility on a 24/7 basis and/or as needed
  • Basic knowledge of Unix shell scripting
