Job Description

Overview

The Union Lab Chemist at our Tacoma, WA facility will be responsible for the analysis of samples to determine their chemical and physical properties using chromatography and spectroscopy techniques. This position will split time between working in the lab and completing data analysis/data entry.

Shift: Mon-Friday; 12:30pm-9pm, the candidate will need to be able to work a day shift from 6:00 am-2:30 pm for an initial training period of 2-3 months.

Pay Rate: $24.50 Set by Union contract

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
• Ability to prepare labels for verification of samples;
• Ability to perform all drum verification testing;
• Ability to perform analysis on outbound railcars for fuel blending and perform data entry;
• Ability to change a gas cylinder tank;
• Ability to use Setaflash flash point tester equipment;
• Ability to perform regular Quality Control on analytical balance, BTU instruments and PH meters;
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment as needed;
• Properly manage waste generated as a result of analytical procedures;
• Maintain a safe working environment that complies with all applicable OSHA regulations;
• Make up reagent solutions;
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management. 

What does it take to work for Emerald Services?

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (or related science) preferred or 5+ years of laboratory experience required;
• 1 year of prior experience in a laboratory setting, with GC and/or ICP experience preferred;
• Excellent communication and organization skills;
• Proficiency with computer applications;
• Ability to document, record, and analyze data and information.
