The Opportunity:

Reporting to the SVP of Supply Chain, the Director, Logistics (Backhaul Operations Focus) will lead a team that is responsible for minimizing empty miles within our transportation fleet. The Director, Logistics leads a variety of roles that will drive toward this objective, including Business Development, Backhaul Coordinators, Quote to Cash Administration and Systems Integration. The Director, Logistics, with the support of the Transportation Operations Team, will set up and execute processes that enable us to rapidly scale the backhaul program at Clean Harbors.

Position is located at Clean Harbors headquarters in Norwell, MA.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lower net transportation expense by reducing empty miles across the transportation network;
  • Work directly with external providers, customers, and partner teams to craft and deliver scalable solutions;
  • Own program communication, accelerating progress by driving crisp and timely decisions, clearing blockers, escalating as appropriate;
  • Influence design and development of strategic processes;
  • Develop, implement, and govern KPI reporting for the program, providing visibility to the milestones and performance across all projects and use this data to drive/influence business decisions;
  • Establishes quote to cash process and associated communications;
  • Works directly with Transportation Operations Group to evaluate potential backhaul customers;
  • Use of PO reports and Power BI tools to continually match freight with internalization opportunities;
  • Responsible for setting up billing information and lane data for any newly established business;
  • Will train new Transportation Operations members on process and SOP's;
  • Lead the integration of customer TMS with our internal TMS;
  • Establishes and maintains quality relationships with freight brokers to fill trucks on short notice.

What does it take to work for Clean Harbors?

  • Logistics, freight coordination, backhaul experience;
  • Drives the program by understanding and improving the details of all associated processes and can also see the big picture;
  • Need to be collaborative and persuasive in order to bring various teams along when changing processes and making progress toward goals;
  • Minimum 3+ years in a Management role preferred;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Able to pull data from multiple sources, compile data, and make data driven decisions;
  • Able to package and present data and analysis to leadership in a clear and concise manner.
