The Opportunity:

The HR Business Partner will partner with Senior Business Leaders throughout Canada to provide coaching, support and influence to enable the effective development and delivery of people plans which support business unit strategic and operational plans.

The HR Business Partner originates and leads HR strategies, initiatives and practices that support an employee-oriented, high performance culture.  Working in conjunction with the HR Centers of Excellence, the HRBP will contribute to the development and delivery of Employer of Choice focused HR solutions that support business units across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;

  • Research, develop and execute with quality, effective HR business initiatives that support both the company's and assigned business units' strategic plans.  Build initiatives into a fluid Human Resources business plan with measurable and reportable results.

  • Work with assigned business unit(s) leaders to develop and deploy all aspects of effective workforce planning, talent pipeline requirements, employee development and talent acquisition to meet business unit talent needs;

  • Originate and lead programs to understand and improve employee engagement, employee retention and turnover reduction;

  • Consult with business unit leaders to identify gaps in existing HR policies and procedures; contribute to the development of new/amended HR policies and procedures, and facilitate delivery into the business unit;

  • Identify and prioritize the needs of the business unit related to the HR centers of excellence (Comp, Benefits, Recruiting, Development); work with COE leaders to propose, implement, and deploy solutions;

  • Facilitate annual performance management, employee development and compensation review processes within assigned business unit(s);

  • Train managers/employees on company policies/procedures and other organizational development training programs;

  • Participate in special projects with Senior Business and HR Leaders concerning strategic workforce planning, workforce development and reduction;

  • Maintain current in-depth knowledge of standards and legislations related to day to day management of employees, reducing employment legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance;

  • Interact with federal, state or provincial, and local government to ensure compliance with statutes, regulations, requirements and mandates related to human resources functional areas;

  • Responsible for the administration of all union agreements for assigned portfolio; where applicable, represent the company in union negotiations.

Education/Knowledge:

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Business, Commerce or Labor Relations field;

  • Minimum 5 years of professional HR experience providing consultative and strategic support to organizational leaders on a broad range of human resource issues;

  • Experience in an Industrial or Construction based environment;

  • Previous experience in Labour Relations including union negotiation experience considered an asset;

  • CPHR designation is preferred;

  • Experience working cross-borders as an HR professional considered an asset;

  • Demonstrated ability to influence change within the organization by leveraging strong working relationships built on trust;

  • High level of interpersonal, coaching, and facilitation skills;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong presentation and public speaking skills;

  • Ability to travel as business demands require, up to 30% of the time.
