This position carries an operational title but is focused primarily on leading and managing safety protocols in a heavy industrial environment. The ideal candidate will bring seasoned safety expertise, strong leadership, and the flexibility to work across all shifts and operational needs.<br><br>This role reports directly to the Facility Manager, with mentorship from senior H&S leaders, and serves as a critical safety lead for the site. This role is designed to grow into a senior H&S leadership position.<br><br><strong>Why work for Clean Harbors?</strong><br><ul><li>Health and Safety is our #1 priority-we live it 3-6-5</li><li>Competitive pay and industry-leading benefits</li><li>Comprehensive health coverage after 30 days</li><li>401K with company matching</li><li>Employee stock purchase plan</li><li>Generous paid time off, training, and tuition reimbursement</li><li>Clear path for advancement and leadership growth</li><li>Positive, team-oriented culture</li></ul><br><br><b>RESPONSIBILITIES</b><br><br><ul><li>Lead safety efforts for incineration operations, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and internal protocols</li><li>Act as primary contact for health and safety concerns across all shifts</li><li>Investigate incidents and lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning</li><li>Conduct internal safety audits and implement continuous improvement plans</li><li>Monitor and report safety performance metrics and trends</li><li>Support emergency response planning and participate in drills</li><li>Oversee adherence to hazardous materials handling, confined space entry, and PPE standards</li><li>Train, coach, and guide employees on safety best practices</li><li>Support site operations by working closely with operations leadership during turnarounds, shutdowns, and emergencies</li><li>Maintain open availability for rotating shifts, call-outs, and weekend support</li><li><strong>Schedule and Environment:</strong></li><li>Standard office hours: 7 AM-4 PM Monday-Friday</li><li>Must be available for day/night shifts, weekend call-outs, and emergency response</li><li>Industrial environment: must be comfortable working in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and elevated noise conditions</li></ul><br><br><b>QUALIFICATIONS</b><br><br><ul><li><strong>5+ years</strong> of health and safety experience in a heavy industrial setting (required)</li><li>OSHA 500 certification or ability to obtain (strongly preferred)</li><li>HAZWOPER 40-hour certification and refresher required</li><li>Associate's degree minimum; <strong>Bachelor's degree preferred</strong> in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field<br><ul><li>10+ years of relevant experience may substitute for degree</li></ul></li><li>Working knowledge of WSDS/MSDS, hazardous waste policies, and regulatory requirements</li><li>Strong conflict resolution, coaching, and team leadership skills</li><li>Computer savvy; able to document and report effectively</li><li>Valid U.S. driver's license</li><li>Able to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform physical safety walkthroughs</li></ul><br><strong>Candidate Fit:</strong><br><ul><li>Must be ready to hit the ground running</li><li>Team player, adaptable to evolving priorities</li><li>Comfortable engaging in and resolving conflict constructively</li><li>Open to change and aligned with Clean Harbors' safety-first culture</li></ul><br>Clean Harbors is an equal opportunity employer. <br><br>Clean Harbors is committed to providing access, equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities in employment, its services, programs, and activities.
